Meet Your Doula

Hi, I'm Sarah.

I'm a mother of two, lifelong researcher, creative at heart, and the doula behind Hearth & Haven.

My interest in birth began before my first pregnancy with a simple philosophy: knowledge is power. The more I understood about pregnancy and birth, the less frightening the unknown felt. After my son's birth, I realized I had barely scratched the surface. I've been learning ever since, reading the research, asking questions, and continually expanding what I understand about pregnancy, birth, and the experiences of the families walking through it.

I'm a planner by nature, but I also know birth doesn't always follow the plan. My role isn't to tell you what I would do or overwhelm you with everything I know. It's to learn what makes you feel prepared. Whether you want the overview, the deep dive, or the full research rabbit hole, I'll meet you there.

Outside of birth work, you'll usually find me with my family, experiencing the world all over again through my children's eyes, sewing or pattern drafting, thrifting, experimenting with a new recipe, or happily carrying around an iced chai.

I believe there are a million ways to birth, and my choices don't have to be yours. Your birth, your body, your baby. I'm here to help you feel informed, prepared, comfortable, and supported in the choices that are right for you.

My goal is for you to walk into birth feeling prepared rather than afraid, supported rather than managed, and confident that your voice matters.

Why This Work Matters to Me

Birth has a way of staying with us.

My own experiences with pregnancy, birth, and motherhood showed me just how much it matters to feel heard, respected, and supported during such a vulnerable and transformative time. I became a doula because I want to be the steady person beside you — the one who helps make the unfamiliar feel a little less scary, reminds you that your voice matters, and helps you feel at home in your birth, wherever it happens.

My two births could not have felt more different, and what stayed with me wasn't simply how differently they unfolded. It was how differently I felt because of the people surrounding me. I learned firsthand how much it matters to have people in the room who make you feel heard, respected, safe asking questions, and supported in the decisions you make. They were night and day, not simply because the births themselves were different, but because the support surrounding me was different.

That experience lit a fire in me. I wanted to understand why birth experiences can feel so different, why support matters so much, and how I could become part of that support for someone else.

That's the heart behind Hearth & Haven. A hearth holds a fire, and my experiences created one in me: a desire to create a haven where families feel informed, respected, supported, and never alone in navigating their birth.

“When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you.”
